BARCELONA
Language Travel Spain: Demetrio Snchez - Director of Studies of LTS Barcelona

"If you already know us then words are not necessary and if you do not know us yet, I am Demetrio Snchez and I am the Head of Studies of the LTS school in Barcelona.
I presume that you want to learn Spanish. I can also imagine why you want to learn it: work, travel or just for fun which is, by the way, a magnificent reason.
I also understand your doubts: Where? Barcelona? Why? The Ramblas, the Barceloneta, The Gell Park, the Sagrada Familia, Gaud, Dal, ah! But all that is not enough without human warmth, without people.
My colleagues and I know this from our experience, which is why we want to offer you, as much as possible, our personal side in addition to our professional side. We are people who work with people and when we give lessons in Spanish we try to make friends.
The decision is yours".

Demetrio Snchez
Head of Studies of LTS Barcelona

The City

Barcelona world class city, city of millions. A city of prosperity and progress where the cultural present and past crowd around. Barcelona lies at the foot of Mount Montjuc which rises, as it were, from the sea, where the famous Mies van der Rohe Pavilion is to be found, as is the Pueblo Espaol, the Spanish village in which houses, squares and streets are representative of all Spain. Downtown' in the city, lovers of culture can get their fill of painters such as Picasso and Mir.
Or they can visit the many architectural triumphs which the famous architect Gaud has left to us. The old part of the city, the 'Barrio Gtico' with its old city walls and beautiful monuments, is well worth a visit. In addition to official Spanish you can hear Catalan being spoken here although, of course, people will speak to you in Castilian. If, in spite of everything, you have nothing to do for an evening, then a stroll along the elegant boulevard Las Ramblas, a really interesting experience. There is also the Mediterranean which always invites you for a refreshing dip.

Language Travel Spain: Beach of Barcelona
The beach at Barcelona, five minutes from city centre.

Barcelona is a metropolis where you will quickly feel at home. There is also plenty to do in the are surrounding Barcelona. The mountain ranges (Montserrat, Sierra Montseny and, a little further away, the Pyrenees) are quiet, green and dotted with pretty villages.
Those who like the beach can also enjoy themselves in the neighborhood of Barcelona. Both the Costa Brava (with the beautifull Arenys de Mar) and the Costa Dorada (Sitges with its whitewashed houses) are close by.

The School

Our new home in Barcelona is located at Calle Mallorca 27, in the heart of Barcelona's vibrant, central L’Eixample District, home to Gaudi's Sagrada Familia cathedral, a collection of notable modernist architectural gems, including Gaudi's Casa Batlo and La Pedrera, and much of Barcelona's best boutique shopping. On foot, the school is 10 minutes from the Plaza de Espana, 10 minutes from the Plaza de Catalunya and within walking distance of the city’s bustling Gran Via. The Sants railway station, Barcelona’s main railway terminal and a landmark building, is only 150 meters away!
With direct connection from the school to 8 main public buses lines, and a metro station less than 5 minutes from our entrance, getting round Barcelona is as easy as walking out the front door!

Celebrations and festivals

On New years Eve, they really let go in Barcelona. All the cafs and restaurants are packed, everyone is dressed up and at the stroke of midnight the traditional twelve grapes are eaten.

One of the most important celebrations in Barcelona is the Merc (patron saint of the city). The main event is on September 24th, although various pageants, concerts and activities begin three days earlier.
Three of the most traditional events around the Merc celebrations are:
'Els Castellets', building human towers. The 'castle' is deemed to be complete when the very smallest person is at the top and activities begin three days earlier.
'El Correfoc', 'diablos y demonios', devils and demons armed with all sorts of fireworks go through the streets.
'The fireworks and music spectacle on September 24th', at 10 o'clock in the evening which brings all the celebrations to the end.

During the traditional Merc festivities there are many rock, pop and folk concerts with international music groups, theatre productions in the street and various sporting activities.

Our Opinion

Barcelona is a city with style, allure and a unbelievable number of things to do, from art to gastronomy to pop music. The city has a clear metropolitan character. For some students that can take a bit of getting used to. If that is the case you might consider traveling first of all in another city for a while. Most of our students, though, really feel at home in Barcelona.
And rightly so, Barcelona is an experience in its own right.

S. Woudrighem
"At the school for Business Administration and Economics I could have gone as a working student to the Olympic Games in Barcelona in a promotion team. If i had been able to speak Spanish. No go. I didn't want that to happen to me again so when I was finished traveling I started the course immediatley. Because LTS in Barcelona offered, in addition to Spanish, the Business specialization, I enrolled. Of course, I already know a lot about economics, but I really wanted to learn something about the Spanish business world.
That is really extra knowlewdge."
